AES 2011 International Conference Support Grants

The AES provides grants to emerging Indigenous evaluators from Australia, Aotearoa / New Zealand and the Pacific Islands to support their participation in AES conferences. This year the grants have supported a record number of 14 delegates from Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea, due to our generous sponsors.

Thank you to those who promoted and sponsored the 2011 grants

We would like to thank our partner organisations and AES members who have helped us to promote these grants to eligible Indigenous people and encouraged or supported them in applying for a grant in 2011. We acknowledge the extensive support provided by the Australian government’s Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (FaHCSIA) in particular.  We are particularly pleased with the large number of applications that we received this year from emerging Aboriginal evaluators.

We are most grateful to the following organisations which sponsored the attendance of several emerging Aboriginal evaluators in the 2011 conference:

Major sponsors:

Office of Indigenous Policy Coordinator, Performance Evaluation Branch, Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs

Department of Family and Community Services, Ageing, Disability and Home Care, New South Wales government

Other sponsors:

Overview of the grants

The ultimate goal and vision of these grants is to help increase the number of Indigenous evaluators in the Australasian area and to strengthen their evaluation capacities. We aim to support applicants with some experience in evaluation who have demonstrated their interest in and commitment to the field of evaluation, or their good prospects of strengthening their own evaluation capacity and contributing to the wider development of Indigenous evaluation capacity.

The grants are open to emerging evaluators in the following groups:

At least one grant is reserved for an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander evaluator who meets the support grant criteria.

Benefits of the grants to Indigenous evaluators

These grants have enabled several emerging Indigenous evaluators from Australasia and emerging evaluators from South East Asia to further develop their evaluation skills and knowledge and their professional networks through actively participating in the annual AES conference. We have received very positive feedback on the benefits and opportunities that these grants have provided to recipients over the past four years.
